Sony Dynamic Digital Sound

The digital sound system from Sony is not as popular or well known as the digital systems from Dolby and dts, but inspite of this the Sony format has quite a lot to offer. It is the only format with a dedicated 8 channel surround system (7.1 to be exact), where Dolby Digital and dts use 6 (5.1). The Sony system adds 2 additional front channels, making the full channel line up front-centre, centre-left, centre-right, front-left, front-right, surround-left, surround-right and an LFE sub-woofer channel.

At the moment SDDS is a theatre format and it is not available to the home cinema market.
