Monsieur Cannibale

Behind the Scenes

I would have never thought I would past a picture of myself on the world wide web. Simply because I think it's not about who you are, but about what you do. But in the several years I've been in the music bizz I know there are people out there who do care who you are. To be honoust sometimes even I want to know who the person behind the music is that I hear. So that is why I opened this behind the scenes part, to let you people see who I am and what I do.

Well to begin by the beginning: I was born in a place called Den Haag in the Netherlands. I grew up
in a place called Monster and that is where I discovered music at the age of 9. My father used to have this massive record collection including records of the Beatles, Yes, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones and much much more. At the age of 9 I discovered this collection and started to play several records of them. The record that cought the most of my attention was the "Love Songs" compilation LP by the Beatles. I loved the honeysweet melodies of "Michelle" and the wonderful chord changes. Ofcourse, by then I had no clue what these chord changes where, but I was eager to find out. That's why I started to take guitar lessons. At the age of 11 I wrote my first song and together with two friends I started a band called Nitrous. The setting of the band changed several times but at the age of 14 we had a setting that was ready to conquer the world. Together with Thomas, Ronald, Bart, Vincent and Monique I've played lot's of cafe's, music-halls and lot's of other different places. Meanwhile I discovered a lot of bands that made my interest for music bigger and bigger. Bands like Soulwax, Eels, Radiohead and Zita Swoon had and still have a big influence on the stuff I write. After I finished High School at the age of 17 I was selected to study a preperation year the Royal Conservatoire in Den Haag. Meanwhile we decided to stop playing together with the band. After I'd finished the year at the Royal Conservatoire I was selected at the Conservatoire in Utrecht for the study Bachelor of Education in Music, and that is what I do nowadays besides writing my own music. And after almost a year without a band I decided to perform on my own, with my guitar and my music. Sometimes I will be accompanied by some guest musicians, but it's always a suprise who I take and in what form we will play!
