Jos Vranken Jr.

* 1 augustus 1939 te Rijswijk Z.-H.

Jos Vranken is born on the 1st of August 1939 in Rijswijk.

He studied at the High School for Roman Catholic Church Music in Utrecht as well at the Royal High School of Music in The Hague. Further he studied under several well-known conductors as for instance was his father Jos Vranken and Prof. Kurt Thomas from Germany.

Jos Vranken is former Head of Education in the roof-organization for choral singing in The Netherlands [SNK] and he was also Staff Member Foreign Affairs [01-08-99].

He was member of the Musical Committee of the International Choir Festival [Arnhem] in Holland and artistic co-ordinator of the World Symposium on Choral Music 1999 Rotterdam [IFCM].

He is the music director of the festival “Tonen 2000” in Monster.

Jos Vranken is Past-President of the "Nederlandse Sint-Gregoriusvereniging", the union of Roman Catholic Church Choirs [more than 4000 choirs, over 250.000 members] and honorary-member of this organization. He is president of the foundation responsible for “Gezangen voor Liturgie”, the R-C Songbook.

Jos Vranken is former board member of the International Federation of Choral Music, [the world-organization for choral music] [2002] and Secretary-General of ICN [International Choral Network, the organization of main European Choir events].

He was musical advisor for the Royal Christian Singers Union and till 2003 also of the Royal Dutch Singer Union [which is the organization for male choirs].

He is conductor of several choirs in The Netherlands and many important choir-concerts took place under his leadership with composition's as: "War Requiem" B. Britten, "Requiem" G. Verdi, "La Rédemption" Ch. Gounod, “Te Deum” Alphons Diepenbrock, "Les Béatitudes" C. Franck, "Te Deum" Z. Kodály, "Svata Ludmila" Ant. Dvorak, "Or shall we die" Michael Berkeley, “Moses” and “Frithjoff Sage” Max Bruch, “Cantata V” Henk Badings and most of the well-known oratorio’s.

He was ordered by Her Majesty the Queen as Knight in the Order of Oranje Nassau and by the Pope as Commander in the Order of St. Gregorius Magnus and with the medal of honour of the City of The Hague and also by the Municipality of Monster. He is awarded with the Pro Cultura Hungarica medal of the Ministry of Culture of Hungary. He is awarded with the bronze medal of the society "Arts, Sciences, Lettres" in Paris and he is member of honour of the “Jussit” choir in Seinäjoki Finland and Conductor of honour of the Budapesti Ifjúsági Kórus in Hungary.
