Photos part 2. Namibia (South and West)
Ai-Ais reedbeds in canyon, view from campsite.
Ai-Ais campsite. Freckled Nightjar was sitting on the ground here in the evening, well lit by the lanterns.
Lone tree with Sociable Weaver nest, somewhere between Ai-Ais and Walvis Bay.
The weaver nest of the former photo, seen from below.
In the valley from Sesriem to Sossusvlei, in the Namib-Naukluft national park. The trees at the border of the dune are about 6 meter tall. Well before this point, with more vegetation, we had both Rüppell's Korhaan (Bustard) and Burchell's Courser.
The famous Sossusvlei in Namib-Naukluft NP. Very few birds of course (a Lanner yes) but some interesting insects. The dots on top of the dune are people doing the crest walk.
Example of an unsurfaced road: broad and rather solid and well maintained. Even with a 2WD car speeds of 90 km/h are not unusual.
The extremely wild topography in the Kuiseb pass zone before the 150 km long descent to Walvis Bay.
The Rooibank site for the endemic Dune Lark, at 30 minutes from Walvis Bay. See report for more details. The lark especially liked to walk on the slopes of such small dunes, and sometimes from one dune to the other.
Flamingoes at Walvis Bay, along the road going South out of town. Both Greater and Lesser are present here.
An example of the famous Welwitschia plant in the desert near Swakopmund.
