Causses and Tarn valley - May 2004
trip report in http://johnbirding.wolweb.nl - John van der Woude

Orchid-rich spot on Causse Noir, not far from Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux.
Often Cirl Bunting in habitat like this. Bonelli's Warbler often heard.

Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux. Should be good for birds but probably too many tourists for that.

Causse de Larzac, a walk westward from Le Mas Reynal (south of Cornus).
Note orchids in foreground. Good Wood Lark habitat.

View across Tarn valley, from above the hamlet Pinet near La Cresse (see gîte section).
Oriole pair in poplars along river.

Typical valley side of Tarn (not in the gorges), with lots of good habitat for birds and flowers.
This is a bit to the left of the previous photo, on the other side of the valley.

View on the Gorges du Tarn from above Ste Enimie.
Rock Martin, Chough, Alpine Swift.

Old wine cellars near Riviére-sur-Tarn, across the valley from our gîte.

The famous bridge being built above Millau.

In Mont Aigoual national park. Near Cabrillac, c. 5 km north of the Mont Aigoual itself.
This park, east of the Causses region, has a non-calcareous soil and hence many different plants.
