Causses
and Tarn valley - May 2004 trip report in http://johnbirding.wolweb.nl - John van der Woude |
Orchid-rich spot on Causse Noir, not far from Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux. Often Cirl Bunting in habitat like this. Bonelli's Warbler often heard. |
Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux. Should be good for birds but probably too many tourists for that. |
Causse de Larzac, a walk westward from Le Mas Reynal (south of Cornus). Note orchids in foreground. Good Wood Lark habitat. |
View across Tarn valley, from above the hamlet Pinet near La Cresse (see gîte section). Oriole pair in poplars along river. |
Typical valley side of Tarn (not in the gorges), with lots of good habitat for birds and flowers. This is a bit to the left of the previous photo, on the other side of the valley. |
View on the Gorges du Tarn from above Ste Enimie. Rock Martin, Chough, Alpine Swift. |
Old wine cellars near Riviére-sur-Tarn, across the valley from our gîte. |
The famous bridge being built above Millau. |
In Mont Aigoual national park. Near Cabrillac, c. 5 km north of the Mont Aigoual itself. This park, east of the Causses region, has a non-calcareous soil and hence many different plants. |
